Congratulations To Our AP Scholars!
The College Board's Advanced Placement Program provides students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school. Students can earn college credit, advanced placement, or both if they successfully perform on AP exams in the spring. AP performance is widely recognized by college institutions with most colleges giving credit for scores of 3 (out of 1-5 score range) and above.
Amidst a global pandemic, 12 PCA students and recent graduates (see below for names) earned Advanced Placement Scholar awards by the College Board. These awards are granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2020 AP exams.
When asked what this honor says about the students' dedication and focus, Academic Counselor, Sally Pascutti said, "All AP exams were online and re-designed to be 45-minutes long, open book, and essay or free response based. Hats off to the students and the teachers who made last minute adjustments to the testing format. The changes meant that they had already prepared for much more than they were to be tested on, but they laser focused on diving deeply into essay/free response skills and entered the exams with confidence."
After receiving the award, Senior Aly Godwin said, "I was so happy that all the hours of studying paid off."
Overall, PCA's scores exceeded all South Carolina pass rates, and students in the Class of 2020 earned credit for a total of 36 college courses through the AP program as well as an additional 32 college courses through dual credit.
