The Fighting Eagles recently celebrated senior AnnaJaye Walters as she signed to play basketball at Columbia International University. Proud family, coaches, and friends gathered in the Student Life Center gym as AnnaJaye made it official.
We asked AnnaJaye's mom, Katie Walters, about this next chapter for her daughter. Katie explains it was a total God opportunity. "AnnaJaye became interested in CIU through a couple of her teachers who attended there and she felt confident in God’s calling to that school once visiting and learning about the bible teaching degree. This degree would allow her to teach Bible in the school and also have a great background in biblical teaching for any future ministry or discipleship God was calling her to. Once she visited she was able to connect with the basketball coach, Coach Fleming. She instantly connected with her heart for God and passion to raise up leaders in the development culture she was seeking at CIU for the basketball program. AnnaJaye put together a video of season highlights and then Coach Fleming came down with her team to visit PCA and watch AnnaJaye play. They offered her a basketball scholarship making next year one she didn’t even know to pray or ask God for. Her dad and I couldn’t be more excited for her and confident in God's plan and purpose in her life. Palmetto Christian has been an education and foundation that has been a gift to her and our family as we all feel invested in and have been so loved by the faculty, staff and families here. We are going to miss her like crazy but the overwhelming feeling of peace and blessing is rising above any sadness because of all the opportunities that could only be explained as the hand and favor of God."
