Notes Of Appreciation For Our Veterans

main image

Veterans Day is a day used to honor U.S. men and women who served in the armed forces. Hoping to be able to show their appreciation for all those who served, middle school students in Kara Karnes' Geography class took out their scissors and pens and set to work making thank you cards.

Karnes said, "I want my students to understand they can make a difference in this world God has given us by doing simple things that can be a blessing to others and impact their lives and the world in a positive way. Veterans Day is a great way to do this because there are Veterans all around us who we may not even know about."

After completion, the cards made their way to Veterans here at PCA and ECBC, as well as the Fisher House and VA Hospital downtown.

When asked what making these cards meant to him, seventh-grader Sullivan Huempfner said, "my great grandfather, my grandfather, and my father are all Veterans and it's history for our family. We know what it's like to serve our country."

Alyssa Carper added, "[it's important] to show the Veterans we are there for them and their service is very important."

PCA loves our Veterans and we are grateful for Mrs. Karnes and this project helping to bring PCA's foundational mission of love, honor, and obey into action.

While the nation was at the polls voting for the next President, PCA's lower school was also at the polls, voting for this year's Student Council. After all of the votes were counted, we are excited to announce the results:

President: Greta Kate Surratt
Vice President: Andrew Pinkel
Secretary: Heyward Neely
Treasurer: Jane Craft
5th Grade Representatives: Emorie Ray and Will Terry
4th Grade Representatives: Madelyn Goulette and Caden Spear
3rd Grade Representatives: Hadley Silvester and William Newbern

When asked what she hoped to accomplish this year in her role as President, Greta Kate said, "I plan to make our school a better place by listening to other students and working to accomplish their ideas."

Student Council Members had their first meeting with Dr. Martin this past Thursday and already they are hard at work. First up, lower school students will be joining the upper school Student Broadcast team for Friday announcements starting this week!

Dr. Martin says that his goal for this year's Student Council is, "to work together to find what God is leading us to do for the school so we can be a blessing."

We can't wait to see what these young leaders bring to the PCA community.
