The Cross Country teams competed in the Region II-AA Championships last Wednesday at Patriot's Park in Sumter and performed very well. The girls finished second in the team standings behind Northside Christian. Addison Hewitt led the Lady Eagles with a 3rd place finish and was joined in the top 10 by Ella Banks (5th) and Tabitha Hewitt (6th). The boys team was crowned as Region Champions with an exciting 32-33 victory over Thomas Sumter. As the runners were coming to the finish, there was a feeling that the team scores would be extremely close. In reality, the team championship was epitomized by Thomas Patrick beating a runner from TSA by 1 foot!  Hans Payne earned the title of Individual Region Champion with a time of 17:19. Three other Eagles joined him in the top 10:  Ethan Gawryluk (4th), Gabe Moser (7th), and Thomas Patrick (9th).

Addison Hewitt, Ella Banks, Tabitha Hewitt, Hans Payne, Ethan Gawryluk, and Gabe Moser were all named to the All-Region team. Congratulations Eagles!

Mini Cheer Teams Bring The Eagle Spirit!

Go! Fight! Win! One can hear these words being projected from the foyer of the Worship Center each Monday and Tuesday after school when Team Blue (K-2) and Team Gold (3-5) practice. Led by Head Coach, Leah Chadwick and Assistant Coaches Kim Chadwick and Tifany O'Neal, Chadwick said, "I have been doing Mini Cheer for 5 years. Kim Calderon has assisted me each year with both teams. This year, she could not help with the younger team, so Tifany O'Neal stepped up to be the assistant. I could not [have survived] without their help."

Like so many other things, this year's team and events looked a little different. "Due to COVID," Chadwick explained, "we cut our numbers from 65+ to 40.  The Blue Team was able to cheer at one JV Game...and the Gold Team cheered at Homecoming. In the past, we have cheered at Pep Rallies, walked in the parade, and performed at several football games."

But even with the changes, the mighty mini-cheerleaders didn't let the obstacles dull their spirits. "Even though our practices and performances have been limited and different, we have managed to have a fun time together. We have practiced social distancing while having special snacks, playing "Getting to Know Our Teammates", and had Ice Cream parties. Overall, we are blessed and thankful for every chance we have had to enjoy some fellowship with friends, and cheer on our EAGLES!  Although the time was limited, the fun and enthusiasm were still shining through the girls' smiles."

Come out this Friday night to not only support the Fighting Eagles in the final game of the season but to also see Team Gold dance during halftime for "Parents Night."

As Chadwick said,
"It is heartwarming and joyful to see these girls pray and grow together over the years. Another reason that I am proud to be a part of the PCA family".
