PCA Students Selected For Prestigious Palmetto Boys & Girls State
PCA is proud to announce our representatives selected for Palmetto Boys & Girls State. Harper Geiger, Isabella De Los Reyes, Joshua Matthews and Hans Payne were selected through an application and interview process and will be representing PCA at the statewide programs June 11-17. These programs are a unique way for young men and women to learn about the American system of government and politics by participating in a mock governmental system and leadership training. In fact, many of our state’s political, business, and community leaders attended Boys & Girls State. Students will have an opportunity to prepare speeches, compose party platforms, debate current issues, and vote for elected offices. Participants also have the opportunity to hear from some of South Carolina’s top leaders.
Academic Counselor Emily Faile explains the significance of being chosen as a representative for this nationally recognized program. "In a traditional year, only 2 candidates are selected from a school our size so the process is incredibly selective. The fact that we have four students attending from PCA speaks highly of the caliber of our students. Participants in Boys and Girls State are also awarded automatic scholarships from over 20 colleges and universities around the state. Those scholarships range from $1000 to $25,000."
