Gator Tales Oh My!!!
Hands were flying into the air with kindergarten students eager to answer questions posed by City of Charleston Environmental Education Coordinator, Matt Olson. We were delighted to welcome back Mr. Matt again this year to help educate the kindergarten classes about alligators, crocodiles and the difference between the two. He also brought his friend Sparky, who is always a favorite with the students!
Each of our kindergartners wrapped up the day with a fun fact or two that they didn’t know about alligators - for example, gators will stay small when raised in captivity, they take two to three months to develop in the egg, and 80-percent of alligator eggs never make it to adulthood. After learning all of the facts, a fascinating show and tell provided the opportunity for the very brave to touch a live alligator on the tail!
It was undoubtedly a captivating lesson that our kindergarten students won't soon forget!
