Band
Students will develop their ability to perform by themselves and in an ensemble on their chosen band instrument.
Grades 6th - 8th
The PCA Band is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students who are interested in learning to play a wind or percussion instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion). No experience is needed in order to begin band in the 6th-grade, although our 5th-grade students are given the opportunity to explore their interests in playing a musical instrument through one full semester of band class.
PCA Band focuses on the fundamentals of music reading and instrumental music instruction. Students will develop their ability to perform by themselves and in an ensemble on their chosen band instrument. Students are evaluated and graded based on their effort and participation, weekly rhythm exercises, weekly playing assignments and mandatory band rehearsals and performances. The band uses SmartMusic software to help students practice in a more effective manner and affords the teacher an opportunity to offer valuable feedback to each student on their progress.
Music students meet by grade level and perform approximately 4 times per year, including Thanksgiving Chapel, the Christmas Concert, Grandparents Day Chapel and the Palmetto Show. Band students are eligible to audition for the Charleston All-County Band, the Region 4 Honor Band, and the South Carolina All-State Band. Understanding the importance of an all-encompassing education, we are pleased to provide the training and instruction for students to fine-tune their musical gifts.
